WHAT: 8 weeks of time when you will choose a level of commitment to serving your “neighbors” in practical ways. In addition you will choose at least 3 specific people to begin praying for, investing in, and inviting on this journey of knowing God better.
WHEN: September 6 – October 31
WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR? – Some might think that their “neighbor” has to be those who physically live next door to them. This is not true. Your “neighbor” is simply the people who are within your circle of influence on a regular basis. Your “neighbor” might be in your workplace, the parents of the kids on your child’s soccer team, or the other students in your biology class. The important thing is to listen to God and be aware of who he is calling you to be in relationship with.
HOW: Phos Church will provide you with a journal, including lots of ideas on how you might serve your “neighbors”. During LEND you will choose ideas from that list or create your own ways of serving. You will then carry them out for your “neighbors”. You will be given the option to commit on a level that is comfortable for you. Choose 20, 30, or 40 times to give of yourself. Feel free to repeat things for different “neighbors”. It is not about how many different things you do; it is simply how you choose to love those around you. You can do them individually or as a family, it is up to you. Just get out there and LEND! For a list of all the dare ideas click here.
COMMITTING TO LEND: The Love Every “Neighbor” Dare is something we are asking you to commit to. In that commitment we want to be able to keep track of all those who are involved and send encouraging thoughts and emails to you. Click here for a copy of the personal commitment page in the journal.
To let us know of your commitment visit: mysignup.com/LEND
THE LEND JOURNAL: is a resource designed for you to keep track of what you have been doing in your “neighborhood” and to write about changes you are seeing in you and in those around you. Click here for a pdf of the journal.
SCRIPTURE REMINDER CARDS: In your journal you will find 8 scripture /reminder cards. These are there for you to use as encouragement and a reminder of some things you might do on your LEND journey. Each week put a different card in your wallet or on the dashboard in your car . Click here for a pdf of the scripture/reminder cards.
THE LEND BLOG: We want to hear your stories! We know that through LEND God is going to be doing some amazing things in each one of our lives. We want everyone to know about it. In addition to sharing our stories in our worship services and in LXGs(small groups), we also have this blog where everyone can visit and share.
To join the blog visit: phoslend.wordpress.com
THE LEND SONG LIST: This is a list of songs that we recommend you go on-line and download. Hopefully the songs that are on it will give you some encouragement to stick with LEND and enthusiasm about the importance of loving every “neighbor”. Click here to see the list and watch videos on youtube.
OUTFLOW: Phos will also be encouraging everyone who is taking part in LEND to purchase and read a book called Outflow by Steve Sjogren and Dave Ping. We will be using this book in our worship services and in our LXGs(small groups) to bring depth and insight to the idea of LEND. The book is fantastic and really describes the core reasoning behind loving every “neighbor”. It is set-up as a 5-week devotional book with a reading for everyday. Full of scripture and stories, the writing is extremely engaging and will help loving your “neighbors” become part of who you are. Throughout the month of September, Phos will have copies of the book available for you to purchase for $12.00.
WHAT ABOUT THE 3 PEOPLE? – One of the hopes that Phos Church has for our people is that we would each have at least 3 “neighbors” that we are praying for, fully investing in, and inviting on this journey of knowing God better. As a part of LEND we are asking you to begin praying and thinking about who those 3 people might be in your life and how you might take those relationships to the next level. You can learn more about having great faith conversations with these folks by clicking here.
